About Rajkot City
Rajkot is a populous city in the state of Gujarat (India) and is counted amongst the fastest growing cities in the world. It is situated quite close to the major ports and well connected to other states by different means of transportation. Owing to these factors, Rajkot has witnessed unprecedented growth in the last few years.
‘Rajkot’ is a peaceful & important city of Gujarat state. Rajkot is famous commercial and industrial city of Saurashtra. The city has a number of impressive colonial buildings and educational institutions. Rajkot is famous for its jewellery market, handicrafts and bandhani. Handicrafts like silver and textiles are a highlight of Rajkot, it is also an engineering hub of country especially for diesel oil engines. The father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi spent the early years of his life in Rajkot. He did his schooling from Alfred High School, now known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi High School. ‘Kaba Gandhi no Delo’ - Gandhiji's home, Watson Museum in Jubilee Garden, picnic spot Lal Pari Lake & Randerda, Palace of Wankaner, Rashtriya Shala are another major attraction.
History of Rajkot is about 400 years old. Rajkot state was established by Jadeja family of Jamnagar state after separation before years. Rajkot was once the capital of the princely state of Saurashtra. Rajkot is at center of historical places of Saurashtra like Gir, Somnath, Dwarka, Porbandar, Kutchh etc. There were two major dams surrounding rajkot namely Aji Dam & Nyari Dam, which are now-a-days pleasant spots for picnics.
Rajkot city is best known as a place that mixes tradition with modernity. This perfect blend is evident in its architecture and cuisine. The 21st century has not left Rajkot India trailing behind.
